The final piece in the OMY series!

Well folks, here it is the final piece in the series. Pretty stoked to have it all done and dusted its a nice feeling. Cant wait to see them hanging on the walls of the restaurant! Go down and check it out in OMY, Beaconsfield in Melbourne! It really is a unique and delicious experience. The time-lapse video will be coming soon!

As a refresher for those that missed it, the series was about showcasing the fresh produce that OMY are now providing for the restaurant from their own personal farm. Its all about fresh food from farm to plate!

What I’m up to.

So as of late I have been pretty busy between commission artwork and designs. The bottle is a fun one I messed around with on a Sunday afternoon with my girlfriend. The Star Wars piece is a work in progress for a client (there may be prints down the track… better stay tuned)

New Series and Prints!

Recently I have been working on a series called “Out of time” which is about the short amount of time we have here on this floating rock. The legacy some leave behind and the influence they still have today.

I now have prints of all 3 pieces which can be found on my online store. http://callumwarrenart.bigcartel.com International shipping available.

Daft punk piece finished!

Daft Punk finished

So this took a lot longer then I originally expected but its finally finished! Daft Punk in Polychromo and Prismacolor pencils with gel white pens for highlights on Strathemore tan paper. All the reflections were quite a challenge but it was a lot of fun. This was my first time using Strathemore tan paper and I like it a lot, will definitely be using it again in the future.

I’d love to hear what everyone things so leave a comment below!

Prismacolor pencils and kill bill drawing!

Kill Bill

I have been wanting to buy this pencils for a few months now and finally got around to it a few weeks ago. Prismacolor premier pencils have quickly become some of the best if not the best colour pencils on the market. They definitely are the best colour pencils I have ever used. I normally stay away from colour pencils as they often don’t allow you to get smooth blends and vibrant colours, showing a lot of the paper underneath. However these pencils are completely different. The pencils are extremely smooth and waxy, almost similar to oil pastels but not to quite that extent.

I bought the 42 pencil set, and I’m glad I made that decision. These pencils work best by layering colours on top of each other. This helps in creating smooth blends and graduation in tone. This would be a lot harder to achieve with a smaller set as there are less colors for you to begin with making it hard to colour match when layering. So I would definitely say go for the 42 set or higher.

The only issue I have had so far is that due to the softness of the crayon they do break easily. I bought mine online from the U.S and it can almost be guaranteed that it was dropped and thrown around on its way over. I have read you can leave them in the sun and attempted to melt them back together although I haven’t tried this yet.

I cannot recommended these pencils enough! There is a learning curve involved like any new medium and I have only scratched the surface. But as soon as you pick them up you can see what these pencils are capable of.
