With this painting I was further developing and exploring a style I have been working with. Combining two objects/locations that don’t normally belong together and making them look as if they could. Creating little worlds. I go more in depth into why and how I painted this piece in the timelapse video linked down below.
Artist block… where to start. It’s kind of a weird thing, it’s frustration, anger, anxiousness. It’s kind of like all you want to do is create and put something on the page, but you feel like whatever you do is going to be irrelevant, you don’t have the skills to do so, you lack thought and direction.
You get stuck in a funk, a place that breeds monotony and stale thought, it’s kind of like limbo. For me the way out of this is to just throw something at the page and see what happens, with no pre judgment or expectations. In this case it’s a self portrait of me expressing what it feels like. It was about doing something different to what I normally paint, different style, different colours and now I’m ready for the next one.

Hey guys! long time no see.. I’v been overseas in New Zealand these past few weeks. Whilst I was away I noticed a lot of new people following the site. For that I say thank you and welcome! I’m back on the creative band wagon. Finishing up a painting, working on some logos and other graphic design material and I have some really exciting projects coming up! I’m also updating the site with a lot of content I missed out on uploading so feel free to grab a beer and have a look around. For the new people I will post some of my other links below.

A photo I snapped at Franz Josef Glacier on the heli hike. Incredible experience.
I recently completed another painting on a shadowbox in oils, this one is called “Staying Afloat”. I have been putting a lot of effort into filming and commentating videos, you can see me run through the process of this piece. I would love it if you check out my channel, maybe subscribe if you like what you see and leave some feedback.
My 2017 in Art! What a year, I created well over 50 pieces of art, I launched a YouTube channel, I made the local paper, I completed my first Inktober and I had my own solo gallery something I have wanted to achieve for a very long time.
A massive thank you to anyone who purchased art or commissioned me for artwork. It still blows my mind that people enjoy what I create. Here’s to creating more things in 2018 🍻
